 Rachel McAdams and Michael Sheen
Rachel McAdams and Michael Sheen met on the set of Woody Allen’s newest film, Midnight in Paris, and the cast hit it off: “When you work on a Woody Allen film, it creates a real company atmosphere,” Sheen explains. “Owen [Wilson] and myself and Rachel and Nina [Arianda]–we had a fantastic time.” Fantastic time at that: McAdams and Sheen went public with their relationship just two days ago.

As the new couple made the red carpet rounds, Sheen awed at McAdams’ style. “She knows what she’s doing,” he told InStyle. “She has phenomenal taste. Hopefully some of that will rub off on me.”

Paralyzed man freely moves after getting implant

After Rob Summers was paralyzed below the chest in a car accident in 2006, his doctors told him he would never stand again. They were wrong.

Despite intensive physical therapy for three years, Summers' condition hadn't improved. So in 2009, doctors implanted an electrical stimulator onto the lining of his spinal cord to try waking up his damaged nervous system. Within days, Summers, 25, stood without help. Months later, he wiggled his toes, moved his knees, ankles and hips, and was able to take a few steps on a treadmill.

"It was the most incredible feeling," said Summers, of Portland, Oregon. "After not being able to move for four years, I thought things could finally change."

Still, despite his renewed optimism, Summers can't stand when he's not in a therapy session with the stimulator turned on, and he normally gets around in a wheelchair. Doctors are currently limiting his use of the device, made by Minneapolis-based Medtronic, Inc., to several hours at a time.

His case is described in a paper published Friday in the journal, Lancet. The research was paid for by the U.S. National Institutes of Health and the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation.

For years, certain people with incomplete spinal cord injuries, who have some control of their limbs, have experienced some improvement after experiments to electrically stimulate their muscles. But such progress had not been seen before in someone with a complete spinal cord injury.

Suspect in Stow case taken into custody

A man suspected of being one of the two assailants in the brutal beating of Giants fan Bryan Stow at Dodger Stadium was taken into custody early Sunday morning, Los Angeles police sources say.

At about 7 a.m. PT, the Los Angeles Police Department SWAT team descended on an East Hollywood apartment building with a warrant in hand. According to apartment building manager Maritza Camacho, police, using loudspeakers and with guns drawn, called out to the occupants of Apartment 25. Inside was one of the men police suspect in the March 31 beating that left Stow with brain damage.

As residents of the three-story building stood watching from balconies, police removed, one by one, the people who were inside the apartment, according to Camacho. Among them was a man with a bald head and tattoos on his neck and arms, she said, a description that appeared to match the vague sketches released by police of one of the two suspects. She added that he did not appear to resist being taken into custody.

Several police sources confirmed that the man taken into custody was one of the two suspects in the beating.

Police officials declined to give details, including the name of the suspect, saying only that the investigation was ongoing.

12-mile-high ash plume shutters Iceland airports
Grimsvotn eruption not expected to have same effect as 2010 Eyjafjallajokull eruptions
More than a year after an Icelandic volcano wreaked havoc for millions of air travelers across the globe, a new eruption has spewed an ash plume 12 miles in the air. Iceland's airports have been shut down, and ash could affect Europe later this week.

Ash could reach northern Scotland by Tuesday and parts of Britain, France and Spain by Thursday or Friday if the eruption continues at the same intensity, airlines were warned on Sunday.

The warning is based on the latest 5-day weather forecasts, but is being treated cautiously because of uncertainties over the way the volcano will behave and interact with the weather.

The Grimsvotn (GREEMSH-votn) volcano, which lies beneath the ice of the uninhabited Vatnajokull glacier in southeast Iceland, began erupting Saturday for the first time since 2004, sending ash, smoke and steam 12 miles into the air.

It was the volcano's largest eruption in 100 years.

Preakness a better test than Derby
When it comes to crowning horse racing's champions, the Preakness Stakes has turned out to be a more significant factor in recent years than the more prestigious Kentucky Derby, the New York Post reported Friday.

Each of the past 10 Preakness winners, and 13 of the past 14, went on to be named the three-year-old champion at the end of the year (including the filly Rachel Alexandra), though just seven of them won the Derby. Four of those Preakness champions were named Horse of the Year.

Water inches closer to Louisiana homes

The final wave of holdouts has mostly packed up and left this town as water from the swollen Atchafalaya River inched toward their homes, their frustration and hope painted on signs outside their now-abandoned homes.

"Nothing left worth stealing," read one. "Stay strong. Believe," urged another. "Our hearts are broken, but our spirits are not. We will come HOME," are the words Kip and Gwen Bacquet spray-painted on the plastic liner that covers the entire first floor of their house.

Most had left Butte LaRose days earlier amid high tension as the water continued its dayslong trek toward the area. St. Martin Parish had ordered a mandatory evacuation to take effect Saturday, but then pushed it back at least two days after officials said the river would crest May 27 at a lower level than previously thought.

The delayed evacuation is likely to be a source of both optimism and further frustration for folks who have heard the same grim forecast for days on end. Once the water comes, residents may not be able to return for weeks. They'll have to wait until Monday for officials to decide whether to reinstate the evacuation order.

"It's probably a blessing for some because maybe some people who didn't have time to do additional sandbagging will now have more time," said Maj. Ginny Higgins, a spokeswoman for the St. Martin's Parish sheriff's office.

Why home prices are falling -- again

In all of the tumult, it's easy to forget that the root cause of all this mess -- now entering its fourth year -- continues to fester like an untreated wound. I'm talking about the U.S. housing market, which, by some measures, has fallen to new lows. After showing signs of hope late last year in the wake of the homebuyer tax credit, it's now suffering fresh setbacks and reaccelerating price declines.

Consumers, weighed down by rising inflationary pressure and lackluster job growth, are losing confidence. At the same time, tight lending standards and efforts to reform Wall Street and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are restricting access to mortgage credit. Right now, housing finance survives on government largesse: Government-backed entities like Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac now account for 95% of new mortgages.

Kids hope to attend party — but parents say world's going to end

The Haddad children of Middletown, Md., have a lot on their minds: school projects, SATs, weekend parties. And parents who believe the earth will begin to self-destruct on Saturday.

family divided over world ending. The three teenagers have been struggling to make sense of their shifting world, which started changing nearly two years ago when their mother, Abby Haddad Carson, left her job as a nurse to “sound the trumpet” on mission trips with her husband, Robert, handing out tracts. They stopped working on their house and saving for college.

Last weekend, the family traveled to New York, the parents dragging their reluctant children through a Manhattan street fair in a final effort to spread the word.

“My mom has told me directly that I’m not going to get into heaven,” Grace Haddad, 16, said. “At first it was really upsetting, but it’s what she honestly believes.”

Thousands of people around the country have spent the last few days taking to the streets and saying final goodbyes before Saturday, Judgment Day, when they expect to be absorbed into heaven in a process known as the rapture. Nonbelievers, they hold, will be left behind to perish along with the world over the next five months.

Elisabeth moss divorce.“Mad Men” actress Elisabeth Moss and “Saturday Night Live” funnyman Fred Armisen are officially divorced.

Maria Shriver Hires Top Divorce Lawyer

It looks like Maria Shriver is gearing up and taking steps to protect herself and her children from a potentially long and costly divorce battle with her separated husband Arnold Schwarzenegger.

PEOPLE is reporting that Shriver has hired top celebrity divorce lawyer Laura Wasser to represent her.

Wasser is a Los Angeles-based family lawyer whose previous clients include Angelina Jolie, Christina Aguilera, Stevie Wonder and Britney Spears.

A source is quoted saying, "Maria hasn't decided yet if she wants to end her marriage."

It was also revealed that Wasser was hired before the news of Arnold Schwarzenegger's affair and child with the family's longtime housekeeper went public.

The housekeeper has reportedly been identified as Mildred Patricia "Patty" Baena. She also worked as an assistant to Schwarzenegger and Shriver for 20 years before resigning in January.

The exact identity of the boy still remains under wraps, but new details have emerged based on discovery of the boy's the birth certificate.

In the certificate, which blacks out the boy's first and middle name, it is revealed that he was born on October 2, 1997 just five days after Schwarzenegger and Shriver welcomed their fourth child, Christopher Sargent Shriver Schwarzenegger, to the family.

That means his mistress and his wife were both pregnant at the exact same time with his children.

The boy, who is now 13, was born in Burbank, Calif., to Baena, who lists her last name as "Pena" in the certificate. She also named the father as Rogelio D.J. Baena, who was her husband at the time. Patty's place of birth is Guatemala, while her ex-husband was born in Colombia.

Schwarzenegger and Shriver shocked the public when they announced earlier this month that they were separating after 25 years of marriage.

On May 16, Schwarzenegger released a statement admitting to his wrongdoing and apologizing to his family.

Highest Speed Limits

Highest Speed Limits (Laws)

Highest Speed Limits – Find out what some of the highest speed limits are across the country. Highways that are built by the federal government are still reduced to 55 mph. However, state roads are very different.

We will review the highest speed limits around the country. Some of the rural states have anywhere from 65 mph to 80 mph. Here’s a list on how fast you can go in some of the states.

Texas – While it’s not throughout the entire state, there are a few stretches of highway in Texas where the speed limit is an impressive 80 mph.

Utah – Similar to Texas, Utah also has a few stretches of highway where drivers can accelerate to 80 mph.

The rest of the states with the highest speed limits come in at allowing drivers to go up to 75 mph on selected freeways. These states are: Colorado, Idaho, Louisiana, Arizona, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, South Dakota, North Dakota, Oklahoma, and Wyoming.

The National Maximum Speed Law (NMSL) in the United States was a provision of the 1974 Emergency Highway Energy Conservation Act that prohibited speed limits higher than 55 mph (90 km/h).

It was drafted in response to oil price spikes and supply disruptions during the 1973 oil crisis. While gasoline consumption was expected to fall by 2.2%, the United States Department of Transportation calculated actual savings at 1%. Independent studies suggest savings as low as a half percent.

The law was widely disregarded by motorists and most states subversively opposed the law. Actions ranged from proposing deals for exemption to minimizing speed limit enforcement.

The NMSL was modified in 1987 and 1988 to allow up to 65 mph (105 km/h) limits on certain roads. Congress repealed the NMSL in 1995, fully restoring authority to determine the the maximum speed limits for each state to the U.S. States.

X-it for Dannii Minogue from X Factor in UK

THE official line is the usual "scheduling conflict" but UK reports claim Dannii Minogue was pushed from Britain's version of X Factor in a "shock" last-minute shake-up of the judging panel.

As the diminutive beauty took to Twitter yesterday, explaining she was forced to step away from her seat on the judging panel after four years due to a clash with the local production of Australia's Got Talent, talk turned to whether Minogue was cut loose to reinvigorate the talent show's format.

It sure seems strange that Minogue would turn her back on a show that averaged 14.3 million in the UK last series compared to AGT, which is watched by 1.75 million here.

Yesterday Minogue, who has already been replaced by UK R&B star Tulisa , said: "I'm so disappointed that I can't be a part of the X Factor this year. I'm going to miss the show and the amazing team who work so incredibly hard on it.
"During discussions for me to return it became clear that unfortunately, this year, the audition dates in the UK clash with my live shows of Australia's Got Talent during June and July."

Her local rep also insisted scheduling meant the dual roles became impossible.

It's thought the new UK dates were to accommodate another new judge, Take That singer Gary Barlow.

Show creator Simon Cowell and judge Cheryl Cole have already quit the UK to concentrate on the US version.

Minogue, partner Kris Smith and baby Ethan split their time between Melbourne and the UK.

Ochocinco’s bull ride not impressive, but action for charity is

After accepting a challenge from Sean Gleason, the CEO of the Professional Bull Riders' Association, the loquacious Cincinnati Bengals wideout headed down to Duluth, Ga., for the Lucas Oil Invitational to ride the beast.

Per Gleason's offer, Ochocinco received $10,000 for simply showing up and getting on the 1,500-pound bull. Had he stayed on the bucking bull for eight seconds, Ochocinco would have added a new Ford F150 pickup truck to his home garage. Ochocinco would also have been allowed to rename the bull any way he liked, and was making noises about naming the bull after Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis ("Why not name the bull Marvin Lewis, everything he says about me is #Bull[expletive] anyway," Ocho said on his Twitter account), but alas … it was not to be.

Endeavour shuttle launch reset for Monday

NASA says it will try again next Monday to launch Endeavour on the next-to-last space shuttle flight.

It will be the second attempt to send Endeavour on its final voyage. On April 29, an electrical problem prevented the shuttle from blasting off. The trouble was traced to a switch box. The box was replaced, and technicians installed new wiring that bypasses the original circuitry.

Commander Mark Kelly will lead the six-man shuttle crew. He's married to Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, who was critically wounded in Tucson in January. The congresswoman's staff says she will return for the next launch attempt.

Endeavour is loaded with a $2 billion particle physics experiment for the International Space Station.
